Automobile major Daimler and wireless technologies firm Qualcomm have joined hands to develop technologies for connected car.

The first phase of the tie-up will stress on harnessing mobile technology for improving in-car experience which include 3G or 4G connectivity, wireless technology which can be used in vehicle and implementing Qualcomm Halo Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging (WEVC).

Daimler board of management member for group research and Mercedes-Benz cars development Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber said: "It's important that we remain on the cutting edge of technology and continue to deliver unparalleled experiences to our customers.

"With this in mind, we are eager to jointly explore possible fields of future cooperation with an internationally leading tech-firm like Qualcomm."

The collaboration also looks to develop Wireless Power Transfer 2.0 for the electric vehicles manufactured by Daimler.

Qualcomm Halo WEVC technology claims to offer higher performance and high power charging solution for electric vehicles without requiring any plug in.

The WiPower technology from the company will make it possible to recharge electronic gadgets, including cell phones, wirelessly in the vehicles.

Qualcomm president Derek Aberle said: "The automobile has become an extension of always-on connectivity, and as such, we're continuously utilizing our expertise in wireless mobility to deliver in-car experiences comparable to the ease and convenience of smartphones."

Besides, the automaker and the mobile technology firm are making an assessment of Automotive Solutions developed by the latter.
