According to the statistics released by the Turkish Automotive distributor Association (ODD), in the first two months of this year the domestic passenger car market grew by 24.6 percent compared to the same period last year, with sales rising to 62,649 units. In February, domestic sales of passenger car totaled 36,814 units, up 26.1 percent compared to February 2012.

In the first two months this year, sales of light commercial vehicles increased by 2.8 percent compared to the first two months of last year, to 21,181 units. In February, sales of light commercial vehicles totaled 11,493 units, falling 5.3 percent year on year.

The association noted that consumer expectations for the recovery of the Turkish economy, as well as consumer confidence indices and the low interest rates seen in the first months of 2013, will cause domestic demand to support economic growth in Turkey, following the sluggish domestic demand observed last year.
