Aluminium, being a light weight metal, with corrosion resistant and industry friendly mechanical properties, is the most appropriate choice for making the light parts of the aerospace, vehicle and the transport industries. The precise shapes which need to be made up of aluminium are made in an economic way by considering facts like low pressure, low pressure die casting and gravity. The process of making the components of different shapes with the concerned metal by using molds of the desired shapes is known as aluminium die casting.

But before you read further, first of all you need to know what the aluminium diecasting is in actual. It is a complex process and is very popular in the manufacturing community. In this process, the molten aluminium is forced at high pressure into different mold cavities which give desired shapes to the components. These mold cavities are called dies which are always reusable. The process of casting this metal is very fast and is certainly considered to be a very cost-effective method.

The die casting can be done using a lot of materials like copper, magnesium and zinc but the aluminium is the most preferred material due to its light weight and the mechanical properties which are suitable for the industrial usage. The aluminium has the property to remain strong even at high temperatures. It also has high electrical and thermal conductivity. It offers a greater resistance to corrosion in comparison to other materials which can be used in the process of die casting.

The aluminium die casting is a pretty complex process for the fact that it has the capability of producing the components of a variety of shape, size, surface and texture. The casting of this metal is very durable and can suffer large tolerances of the nature. The most commonly used kind of this metal in the aluminium die casting process is the LM 6 type aluminium which is regarded as the best material for this use, although LM 24 and other types are also quite popular.

As aluminium has a considerable resistance to corrosion, it does not require additional finish unlike other materials. However, in extreme cases, a material or fluid apply is observed over it. It is the situation when the material is to be used in the places near the coastal regions or other regions with extreme humidity.

The aluminium die casting process also goes through a finishing touch process which is commonly known as anodizing. In this process, the oxide coating occurring on the aluminium is used which is like a very thin wall layer. It protects the metal from the deteriorating effects. It can often turn into a layer of gray color. This development can be either good or bad. The process of anodizing makes the metal layer much thicker and turns it into a transparent and very hard coating. This further enhances the resistance power of the aluminium against corrosion. Anodizing is often used to bring different color touches to the metal also.
